A NEW STUDY presented by the Global Sport Forum at the Barcelona-based conference’s third edition showed that European sport is failing to tap into the potential of social media. Of those surveyed for a Forum report on “the consumption of sport in 2011 and beyond”, fewer than 26 per cent of sports fans said they used Facebook or Twitter to check their teams or athletes. Only 15 per cent visited their Official Facebook pages while only 14 per cent read blogs and just 9 per cent follow sports or athletes via Twitter.
