NETHERLANDS FINANCIAL services group ING reported a strong turnaround in profits and stated its aim to pay back Dutch taxpayers who bailed it out in the credit crisis. The Dutch government injected more than €10bn into the over-extended bank in 2008/9 but its board sees the chance to largely pay this down in 2011. The bank rescue was accompanied by a rapid withdrawal from sport sponsorship so it is just possible that a sharp rebound in fortunes will also see its familiar orange and white colours grace motor racing and golf again. - 17/2/2011
