Tobacco sponsorship rules don’t apply to Camacho

THE CAMACHO CIGAR brand, owned by Davidoff of Geneva, has struck a three-year deal to become a Corporate Sponsor for the Orange Bowl Festival of college American football and basketball in South Florida.

The second-tier sponsorship includes a large presence at several game day events at Sun Life Stadium, home to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins, for the 2012, 2013 and 2014 Discover Orange Bowls.

Under the deal, gridiron fans, VIP's and Orange Bowl Committee members will have access to three on-site Camacho lounges.

Visitors to the Orange Bowl Game Day Fan Zone, the Orange Bowl's largest pre-game event, will have access to the Camacho Club Lounge, while two cigar lounges will be sited in the designated smoking areas of the stadium for attendees of the Orange Bowl VIP pre-game party.

Although the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) passed new regulations in 2010 to prevent cigarette and smokeless tobacco sponsorships in any sporting event in the United States, these rules do not apply to cigars.

Camacho Cigars has previously acted as the official cigar sponsor for the 5th annual Miami Beach Polo World Cup and as the exclusive cigar for the Florida Marlins Celebrity Golf Classic.

There is also a Camacho Cigar Lounge at Comerica Park, home to the Detroit Tigers MLB franchise.
