BMW catches a cold with weather sponsorship

ASIDE FROM signing up Puma as a sponsor of its rally car team, BMW has got itself into a bit of local bother with an innovative deal to promote its Mini Cooper car brand via social media. The German car manufacturer thought it had hit upon a clever marketing wheeze when it attached its name to the cold weather front that is currently sweeping Europe. But the PR stunt went disastrously wrong as freezing conditions killed up to 100 people across Europe.
