Brands predicted to disappear in 2012

BUSINESS WATCHING website 24/7 Wall St has released a new list of brands it predicts will disappear in 2012 including some big sponsors of sport. Brands at risk include Nokia, which sponsors FIBA basketball events and signed up to the World Rally Championship in 2011, and long-time WTA tennis sponsors Sony Ericsson. 24/7 Wall St compiles the list on an annual basis and has been on target in the past predicting the demise of T-Mobile which was acquired by Deutsche Telecom in 2010. But they have also been wide of the mark with their forecasts for the likes of BP and Kia which are still going strong. Brands disappear for different reasons making an accurate prediction challenging. Some go through acquisition, others through the pruning of a portfolio by major holding companies. In tough economic conditions and changing markets insolvency cannot be ruled out and Swedish car maker Saab is currently on the watch list of 24/7 Wall St.
