Zimbabwe FA nets sponsorship deal ahead of Cup of Nations

Domestic mobile phone company NetOne has unveiled a sponsorship package worth $250,000 (€239,000) to the Zimbabwe Football Association (Zifa) as the country prepares for its first appearance at the Africa Cup of Nations in 10 years.

Zifa said the package would help the body’s preparations for the tournament, which takes place in Gabon from January 14 to February 5.

The $250,000 sum will cater for the team’s tournament-related expenses only, and negotiations over a long-term cooperation between Zifa and NetOne are currently ongoing.

NetOne will also run competitions on its network that will give fans the chance to win prizes related to the national team.

Zimbabwe kicks off its Cup of Nations campaign against Algeria on January 15. It has also been drawn against Senegal and Tunisia for what is only its third appearance at African football’s showpiece tournament.
