WWK adds stadium naming rights to Augsburg shirt deal

Financial services company WWK Versicherungsgruppe has expanded its sponsorship of FC Augsburg to take on the German Bundesliga football club’s stadium naming rights.

Under a 10-year deal running from the 2015-16 season through until the end of the 2024-25 campaign, Augsburg’s home stadium will be known as WWK Arena.

WWK is already Augsburg’s main sponsor and it replaces carbon manufacturer SGL Carbon, which held the naming rights from July 2011.

The new agreement, which was brokered by the Sportfive agency, was made possible by SGL agreeing to step down in favour of WWK. SGL remains as a club sponsor.

WWK signed its main sponsorship deal with Augsburg in April. The deal is for three years and will run from the 2015-16 season to the end of the 2017-18 campaign. The insurance firm will have its logo displayed on the front of Augsburg’s shirts and benefit from a range of branding, promotional and hospitality opportunities in association with the club.

Augsburg finished fifth in the Bundesliga in 2014-15 to secure qualification for the Uefa Europa League.
