Washington major league franchises sign double deal

NBA basketball franchise the Washington Wizards and NHL ice hockey team the Washington Capitals have agreed multi-year partnerships with transportation company Uber and supermarket chain Giant Food.

In addition, Uber and Giant Food have been named partners of Verizon Center, the home arena of both teams, while Washington’s women’s WNBA team, the Mystics, has also partnered with Giant Food. The deals were struck by Monumental Sports & Entertainment, which owns the teams and Verizon Center.

Uber becomes the exclusive ride-share partner of the Capitals, Wizards and Verizon Center and will be afforded in-arena branding exposure during games. The company will also receive marketing opportunities from both teams.

Giant Food signs on as the exclusive grocery partner of the Capitals, Wizards, Mystics and Verizon Center through its legacy partnership with MSE.

The partnership will further develop Giant Food’s community projects, which include hunger relief and improving the lives of local children. The deal also names the supermarket as the presenting partner of the Capitals’ and Wizards’ kids clubs, and Verizon Center’s Family Show series.

Giant Food will benefit from a host of branding and marketing opportunities as part of the deal.
