Volvo Ocean Race names GAC logistics provider

GAC has agreed a deal to become the official logistics provider for the 2013-14 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race international sailing event.

The logistics firm will work with the race’s shipping provider to deliver a complete logistics support package for the 12th edition of the event. This will include custom clearance and transportation of pavilions and hospitality infrastructure, broadcast and other support equipment during the nine-month race.

Knut Frostad, the race’s chief executive officer, said: “Logistics management is absolutely crucial to the operational delivery of the Volvo Ocean Race. The logistics challenges presented by a race visiting multiple countries in five continents over nine months are huge and to meet those challenges we need a world class partner with a proven track record.”

GAC already has an affiliation with the sport through its partnership with the Team Pindar sailing team – which became known as GAC Pindar under a strategic partnership agreed in 2011.

The 12th edition of the Volvo Ocean Race will begin in Alicante, Spain on October 4, 2014. Teams will cover 39,379 nautical miles before finishing in Gothenburg, Sweden on June 27, 2015.
