Uefa prevented sponsors using the rainbow LGBTQ colours at the two Euro 2020 quarter-final matches in Azerbaijan and Russia due to “local legislation”, according to European football’s governing body.

German automotive manufacturer Volkswagen, a Uefa sponsor since 2018, said it was prevented from using rainbow-coloured banners in stadia at the games in Saint Petersburg and Baku, which ended in wins for Spain and Denmark, respectively.
