Top 14’s Lyon signs stadium naming rights deal

French Top 14 rugby union club Lyon has agreed a deal with Matmut for the insurance company to take on naming rights to its home stadium.

Under the agreement, the Gerland stadium will be renamed as the Matmut Stadium. The deal becomes effective in January.

According to the Rugbyrama.fr website, the 10-year deal will be worth a total of €20m ($22.1m).

The agreement comes ahead of a proposed €60m redevelopment of the stadium next year, with the venue’s capacity set to be increased from 14,000 to 25,000.

Matmut is an existing sponsor of Lyon and also holds naming rights to French Ligue 1 football club Girondin de Bordeaux’s home stadium, the Matmut Atlantique.
