Title sponsor secured for WBBL debut

Sports retail store chain Rebel has agreed a deal to become title sponsor of the inaugural Women’s Big Bash League, a new Twenty20 cricket competition being launched in Australia.

The league will take on the official title of Rebel WBBL. The length of Rebel’s agreement with Cricket Australia, the sport’s governing body in the country, was not disclosed.

“The major purpose of the WBBL is to inspire girls to play cricket and it is fantastic to have a well-known Australian company in Rebel supporting this ambition,” Cricket Australia executive general manager of operations, Mike McKenna, said.

The first-ever WBBL season begins on December 5, when the Melbourne Stars host Brisbane Heat. The eight-team tournament will feature 59 matches played across 51 days. Rebel has also agreed to become the official online retail store of Cricket Australia.
