Thai companies return to back country’s golf showpiece

Telecommunications company True Corporation and beverage firm ThaiBev have returned to back the Thailand Classic golf event for a second successive year.

The Thai companies have agreed to invest more than THB180m (€4.6m/$5m) into the event, which is tri-sanctioned by the European and Asian Tours, as well as the Thailand PGA. True will continue to serve as a title sponsor alongside Thai beer brand Chang.

“Golf is an important sport that ThaiBev has continuously supported to raise the bar of the golf industry in Thailand and to improve the potential of the Thai golfers to be in the international tournaments,” Vichate Tantiwanich, senior vice-president of corporate affairs at ThaiBev, said.

This year’s tournament will take place from March 10-13 at the Black Mountain Golf Club in Hua Hin, Prachuab Khiri Khan province. Australia’s Andrew Dodt (right of picture) is the reigning champion, having won last year’s inaugural edition.
