Terra Pizza becomes Galatasaray’s new main sponsor

Turkish Super Lig football club Galatasaray has agreed a two-season deal for restaurant chain Terra Pizza to become its new main shirt sponsor.

The Turkish company will aim to raise its brand awareness at home and abroad through the agreement, which will net the Istanbul club a fixed sum of TL18m (€2.78m/$3.08m) for the 2019-20 season, rising to TL20m in the following campaign.

Terra Pizza succeeds construction group Nef as Galatasaray’s main sponsor. In August 2016, Nef agreed a rolling three-season contract with Galatasaray that could have been worth up to TL52.5m.

Commenting on the Terra Pizza deal, Galatasaray president Mustafa Cengiz said: “For some reason, there has been a perception that either construction, banking or telecommunication companies should advertise on the chest. We want to break this perception.

“When we became European champions, our shirt sponsor was a paint company. We’re proud of this. Unfortunately, when we look at reality, there are very few brands that will carry internationally large brands like Galatasaray in our country and aim to gain a place in the international arena. Fortunately, a Turkish company is trying to make a place in the international arena as a Turkish company by completing its national organisation with Galatasaray.

“As Galatasaray, we will endeavour to give this Turkish brand a place in the international and national market. Our sponsorship revenue was TL143m two years ago and TL160m last year. This year, as of the ninth month, it has exceeded TL190m.”
