Tech to the fore as Acer extends LPGA deal

Taiwanese electronics company Acer has opted to extend its partnership with the Ladies Professional Golf Association.

Although the terms of the agreement were not disclosed, it was confirmed that Acer will retain its role as an official marketing partner and the official tablet of the LPGA for the 2016 season.

Acer will also continue to run its ‘Technology to the Tee’ initiative at LPGA events, with players and caddies able to use an Acer Iconia Tab 8 tablet device to view the current leaderboard for the competition.

The agreement also includes sponsorship of the LPGA-USGA Girls Golf Junior Reporters, who will use Acer tablets to report on five LPGA events this year. Acer will also serve as presenting sponsor at the upcoming LPGA Classic tournament in New Jersey, US, for the fourth consecutive year.

In addition, Acer will launch a social media competition where fans can win an ‘Acer Aspire’ prize package after every hole-in-one. From March 17, supporters can enter by using the hashtag ‘#AcedIt’ on Twitter and Facebook.

Acer will also benefit from a presence on the LPGA’s official website, as well as its social media channels.

Kelly Hyne, vice-president of strategic partnerships for the LPGA, said: “Acer has been a supporter of the LPGA for the last four years and these programs further elevate the player and fan experience both on and off the course.”

Kim Phipps, global director of marketing and brand at Acer, added: “Working together with the LPGA to enhance the tournament experience for players and fans through the use of Acer technology will continue to be a focus in 2016 and beyond.”
