Target strikes deal with MLB

US department store chain Target has reached an agreement to become an official sponsor of Major League Baseball.

Target customers will have the chance to buy an expanded selection of MLB merchandise, with a particular focus on promotional goods related to the MLB All-Star Game. The 2014 All-Star Game takes place at Target Field on July 15, which is the home of Minnesota Twins and is title sponsored by Target. The terms of the sponsorship deal were undisclosed.

Additionally, Target will collaborate with MLB, and celebrity and human-interest magazine People, on the Target Presents People All-Star Teachers initiative, hosting a series of events in schools across the country and honouring teachers at the 2014 All-Star Game.

MLB players including New York Yankees outfielder Carlos Beltran and Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman Adrian Gonzalez will encourage fans to nominate their favourite teachers, share their positive experiences of education and participate in Target hosted events, such as school library makeovers, in MLB communities.

Until May 6, fans will be encouraged to visit AllStarTeachers.com and nominate an outstanding teacher from their community. A group of 30 winning teachers, one representing each MLB team, will be revealed on July 9 and enjoy a dedicated tribute during the All-Star Game.
