Target partners with MLS, expansion franchise

Discount store retail chain Target has entered into a partnership with Major League Soccer and agreed a shirt sponsorship deal with the Minnesota United expansion franchise, which will join the North American football league this year.

Target has agreed a multi-year deal to become an official partner of MLS.

Target will benefit from league-wide brand integration across broadcast, digital and video platforms, as well as in-stadium exposure and on-site activation at key MLS events.

Target’s multi-year partnership with Minnesota United, its hometown club in Minneapolis, commences with the team’s inaugural MLS campaign.

Target’s branding will feature on the front of the team’s shirts as part of the deal, which also includes in-stadium activation and on-field branding rights at TCF Bank Stadium (pictured), the club’s home ground.

Nick Rogers, president of Minnesota United, said: “Target believes they have a role to play in fuelling the potential of soccer and soccer players at all levels in Minnesota and the entire club is thrilled to have them as a partner. Together, Target and Minnesota United will represent the state of Minnesota in our global game.”

Minnesota United is one of two new franchises that will enter MLS this year, along with Atlanta United.
