T-Mobile strikes MLB extension, gains new rights

Telecommunications company T-Mobile has today (Wednesday) agreed a three-year extension to its sponsorship deal with Major League Baseball.

Under the agreement, T-Mobile will continue as the official wireless sponsor of MLB. In 2016, the company will be the title sponsor of both the Home Run Derby during All-Star Week and the Junior Home Run Derby, a new youth competition for boys and girls.

With its involvement in the Junior Home Run Derby, T-Mobile is also a sponsor of Play Ball, MLB’s program to encourage widespread participation in both formal and informal baseball activities especially focused on youth.

In addition, to mark the expanded partnership, T-Mobile is granting customers a full, free year’s subscription to the MLB.TV Premium live streaming service.

“T-Mobile is a great partner that brings an exceptional level of commitment and imagination to MLB,” Bob Bowman, MLB president of business and media, said. “We are thrilled to deepen our productive relationship with T-Mobile, and with the offer to provide free MLB.TV to T-Mobile customers, I’m certain baseball fans share our sentiment.”
