Beverages giant Coca-Cola, telecommunications company Sprint and insurance group State Farm have signed up as official sponsors of the Copa America Centenario, the special edition of the national team football tournament which will take place in the United States later this year.
The three companies join sportswear firm Nike in the tournament’s sponsor portfolio and will be entitled to signage at matches and usage of Copa America imagery in their marketing.
The agreements were brokered by Soccer United Marketing, the marketing arm of Major League Soccer.
SUM president Kathy Carter told the Forbes website: “We are excited to announce this first wave of partners, all of whom have a storied history in sports, and specifically soccer, partnerships. It has been encouraging to see the response by the corporate community as well as the fans, who have exceeded our expectations for buying tickets, and we will have additional partners, and ticket updates, to announce in the near future.”
The Copa America Centenario will be played from June 3-26 across 10 American cities. The centennial edition of the tournament is being staged outside of South America for the first time. The tournament will feature six teams from the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) and all 10 teams from the South American Football Confederation (Conmebol).
