Sri Lanka Cricket smartens up with Hameedia

Sri Lankan menswear brand Hameedia has been appointed as the official formal clothing sponsor of Sri Lanka’s national cricket team.

Under the deal signed with the Sri Lanka Cricket governing body, Hameedia will also provide clothing to Sri Lanka’s A, Under-19 and women’s national teams, along with its national Twenty20 champion when it participates in the annual Champions League T20 competition.

The terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Sri Lanka’s women begin their tour of South Africa today with the first of three one-day internationals before a three match Twenty20 series. The men are back in action next month with three ODIs and two T20s at home to New Zealand.

The partnership is understood to be a three-season deal, from 2019-20 to 2021-22, and builds on AXA’s existing Global Partner agreement with Liverpool.

The deal is the largest ever sponsorship investment in UK women’s sport and comes less than a year after the league went fully professional in September 2018.

Under the five-year global deal, Oppo will become the first Official Smartphone Partner of The Championships, Wimbledon, as the event is officially known.

US sportswear brand Nike is paying about $7.5m (€6.7m) per year to sponsor China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL), according to industry sources.
