South African Women’s Open connects with Cell C

The Womens’ Professional Golfers’ Association of South Africa (WPGA) has secured telecommunications provider Cell C as the title sponsor of the South African Women’s Open.

Part of the Sunshine Ladies Tour, the 2014 South African Women’s Open will take place at San Lameer on October 16-19.

The exact terms of Cell C’s deal with WPGA and event promoter World Sports Promotions were not disclosed but the event will now carry an increased prize fund of €320,000 ($438,400).

Competitors in the event – which will be comprised of leading South African professionals, international players and 10 local amateurs –  will be able to earn points towards qualification for the Sunshine Tour’s next season-ending Investec Cup.

South African No.1 and inaugural Investec Cup winner Lee-Anne Pace has confirmed her participation at the South African Women’s Open, alongside defending champion Marianne Skarpnord of Norway.
