ScotRail signs as Solheim Cup sponsor

Scotland’s railway service ScotRail has signed as the Official Train Sponsor of next month’s Solheim Cup.

The deal was brokered by the IMG agency, the official staging partner for this year’s event.

The Solheim Cup is the biennial women’s matchplay golf contest between Europe and the US and will be hosted at Gleneagles in Perthshire over three days in September.

Under the deal, ScotRail will provide promotional and logistical support for the event, which is expected to attract around 100,000 spectators.

Lesley Kane, ScotRail Commercial Director, said: “ScotRail has vast experience in helping people get to and from major sporting events in Scotland, including the 2018 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, where we were an Official Partner.

“Once again we look forward to contributing to the smooth running of the event’s logistics.”

The Scottish Government is fully funding the 2019 Solheim Cup with a budget of up to £19m ($23m/€20.7m).

Tourism agency VisitScotland is leading on the delivery of the project on behalf of the Scottish Government, working in partnership with IMG, Transport Scotland, Police Scotland, Scottish Golf and Perth and Kinross Council.
