Schalke eats up new partner, Volkswagen to end association

Italian meat products manufacturer Rovagnati has entered into a partnership with Schalke 04, while automotive manufacturer Volkswagen has announced it will not be renewing its sponsorship deal with the German Bundesliga football club.

Rovagnati has agreed a two-year deal with Schalke, which will cover the 2016-17 and 2017-18 Bundesliga campaigns.

As part of the deal, Rovagnati will receive in-stadium advertising exposure at the club’s Veltins Arena. The company’s branding will also be present in the stadium’s VIP areas, while its products will be sold in kiosks on match days. Various marketing activities will be organised to promote the partnership.

Meanwhile, Schalke’s association with German company Volkswagen will come to an end after the 2015-16 season. The two parties’ three-year deal, which expires in June, will not be extended.

“Volkswagen will not extend its contracts with Schalke 04 and (2.Bundesliga team) Munich 1860 at the end of the current season,” a Volkswagen spokesman told the AFP news agency.

Volkswagen sponsors multiple German football clubs, but its sponsorship commitment has come under pressure amid the emissions scandal that hit the company in September.
