Sauber partners with Asian gaming group

Formula One motor racing team Sauber has agreed a sponsorship deal with Asian online gaming company AG88.com.

AG88 will act as a race partner of the Swiss team during this season’s Singapore Grand Prix on September 16-18 and the Japanese Grand Prix on October 7-9.

Under the terms of the deal, the AG88 logo will appear on the upper sides of the sidepods of the Sauber cars, as well as on the garage walls.

AG88.com was first established in 2008 as one of the earliest legalised online gaming companies in Asia. It operates under the supervision of the Philippines government.

The partnership is understood to be a three-season deal, from 2019-20 to 2021-22, and builds on AXA’s existing Global Partner agreement with Liverpool.

The deal is the largest ever sponsorship investment in UK women’s sport and comes less than a year after the league went fully professional in September 2018.

Under the five-year global deal, Oppo will become the first Official Smartphone Partner of The Championships, Wimbledon, as the event is officially known.

US sportswear brand Nike is paying about $7.5m (€6.7m) per year to sponsor China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL), according to industry sources.
