Repreve to turn X Games Aspen green

Yarn manufacturing company Unifi has announced its Repreve brand will return as the recycling sponsor of the 2014 X Games Aspen extreme sports event.

The 2014 X Games Aspen takes place in the US city from January 23-26 and Repreve will turn more than 100,000 recycled plastic bottles into ESPN course signage and lanyards and Repreve merchandise. The X Games is owned and operated by US pay-television broadcaster ESPN.

During the showpiece women’s superpipe snowboarding finals, Repreve will distribute thousands of distinctive lime green beanie hats to fans, each made with six recycled plastic bottles.

Repreve will also launch its consumer-driver TurnItGreen campaign at the event, focused on education and engagement around recycling.

Super pipe competitior and two-time Olympian Elena Hight will serve as a brand ambassador for Repreve, looking to drive awareness about recycling through collaborations with its modern lifestyle brand Volcom and working alongside TurnItGreen. Hight’s Volcom competition jacket is made using 50 recycled bottles and she will feature on television advertisements promoting the brand that will air on ESPN throughout the X Games.
