Rebel extends title sponsorship of Women’s Big Bash

Sports retail store chain Rebel has renewed its title sponsorship of Australian Twenty20 cricket competition the Women’s Big Bash League.

The new three-year deal covers the 2018-19 to 2020-21 seasons of the competition. Rebel has served as title sponsor of the WBBL since its inaugural season in 2015-16.

As part of the agreement, Rebel will continue to work with Cricket Australia on the Rebel Young Gun Award, which seeks to support the WBBL’s up and coming talent.

The deal was announced today (Thursday) as Cricket Australia head of Big Bash, Kim McConnie, spelled out a goal to make the WBBL the world’s top women’s sports league.

“We've got all the ingredients to make this the best and biggest women's sport in the world,” McConnie said. “The cricket fan base is global, so much of our fan base is beyond the borders of Australia.

“We are bringing together the best female cricketers in the world, also the atmosphere and fun … that's a pretty compelling combination.”

The 2017-18 WBBL season commences on Saturday. The Sydney Sixers are the defending champions.
