Queensland Firebirds net new principal partner

Global activewear brand Lorna Jane has agreed a deal to become the principal partner of Australian Super Netball League team, the Queensland Firebirds.

The three-year deal, which also names Lorna Jane as the principal partner of the Netball Queensland governing body, will cover the 2017 to 2019 seasons.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed, but the Firebirds confirmed it represents the biggest deal in the club’s history. The partnership marks Lorna Jane’s first with a sports team.

The deal grants Lorna Jane naming rights and a host of engagement benefits focused on Netball Queensland’s grassroots initiatives. Lorna Jane’s branding will also feature on the front of the Firebirds’ playing jerseys.

Lorna Jane will produce a range of products for the Firebirds and Netball Queensland brands, with the first items to be revealed in 2017.

“This is a game-changing partnership,” Netball Queensland chief executive Catherine Clark said. “Our shared passion for empowering women will only strengthen both organisations. We look forward to a successful partnership, fostering growth at the grassroots and success for our Firebirds as they embark on their inaugural journey in the new Suncorp Super Netball competition.”

The Super Netball League has been formed following the disbandment of the ANZ Championship, which comprised teams from New Zealand and Australia. The Super Netball League will be solely made up of sides from the latter country.

The Firebirds claimed the 2016 ANZ Championship title with a 69-67 extra-time win over the New South Wales Swifts at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on July 31.
