QFA calls in Ooredoo for Emir Cup

Qatari telecommunications firm Ooredoo has signed a one-year sponsorship deal with the Qatar Football Association.

Under the terms of the deal, Ooredoo becomes the main telecommunications partner  for the Emir Cup 2014. Ooerdoo is a long-standing partner of the QFA and will engage in a number of fan initiatives related to its backing of the on-going knockout club competition.

The tie-up was launched under the slogan “The People’s Cup” and Ooredoo’s activities to promote the tournament will include a “screaming booth” where fans can record themselves shouting “goal” in an exuberant fashion, while supporters have also been asked to enter an Instagram competition with a slogan about their favourite club using the hashtag #EmirCup2014.

Khalid Al Kuwari, chief operations officer of QFA, said: “We have a deep rooted relationship with Ooredoo that began more than 10 years ago, and there is no doubt that this relationship involved and continues to involve countless successes that develop the game of football in the country. Our partnership that aims to support this important tournament showcases our joint commitment to encourage our fans to take part in this tournament, develop football in the country, and stage an exciting tournament that wows everyone in Qatar.”

The 2014 Emir Cup got under way on April 21 and concludes with the final at Khalifa International Stadium on May 17.
