Qatar FA extends ties with Shell

The Qatar Football Association has signed a four-year partnership with the national subsidiary of Anglo-Dutch multinational oil and gas company Shell.

Qatar Shell will be the main sponsor of Qatar’s national teams at senior and junior levels in a deal that builds upon a long-term collaboration.

Shell has sponsored Qatar’s domestic knockout competition, the Emir Cup, for eight consecutive years, and in February it and the QFA announced the launch of corporate social responsibility initiative Koora Time, which focuses on improving the health and well-being of the country’s youth through football.

The latest deal was announced at the Aspire4Sport Congress in Doha, where the QFA and Qatar Shell are exhibiting the Koora Time programme.

Wael Sawan, the managing director and chairman of Qatar Shell Companies, said: “Our partnership is a great opportunity to engage very closely with the fans to promote and facilitate greater access to the sport at a grassroots level, hence supporting the development of football in Qatar as the country gets ready for the Fifa World Cup in 2022.”
