The Council of Mallorca has scrapped a stadium naming rights deal with LaLiga club RCD Mallorca following a political dispute over the use of funds allocated to promote tourism to the Spanish island.

The club last week renewed a sponsorship deal with the Council, through which the team’s home venue was set to continue to be known as the Visit Mallorca Estadi. The stadium has held this moniker for the past two seasons, with RCD Mallorca having originally donated the rights in June 2020 as a means to help the island’s tourism economy recover from the impact of Covid-19.
