Pirelli expands F1 involvement with Spanish and Hungarian race deals

Italian tyre manufacturer Pirelli has expanded its involvement in the Formula One motor racing championship by agreeing to become the title sponsor of this year’s Spanish and Hungarian grands prix.

The Spanish GP takes place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona on May 8-11, while the Hungarian GP will be held at the Hungaroring in Budapest from July 24-27.

Pirelli said in a statement: “This latest initiative underlines Pirelli’s commitment to Formula One, under the current supply contract that runs through to 2016.”

Pirelli in January announced a three-year extension to its status as the exclusive supplier of tyres to Formula One.

The deal takes effect from the forthcoming 2014 season and was struck with the FIA, motorsport’s global governing body. The company also enjoys comprehensive branding rights as part of its partnership with the sport.
