PGA Tour partners up with Technogym

Fitness equipment supplier Technogym has signed a multi-year partnership with golf’s PGA Tour.

The deal names Technogym as an Official Supplier of the PGA Tour Player Performance Centres. The Tour said Technogym was chosen for its “unique and technologically-advanced training solutions and digital technologies”.

The Player Performance Centres include four travelling fitness and wellness centres, with two dedicated to performance and training and two dedicated to therapy and recovery. Each Player Performance Centre will be fitted with Skillruns, a performance treadmill designed for fitness training and rehabilitation that is used for professional golfers and golf enthusiasts.

Nerio Alessandri, founder and chief executive of Technogym, said: “This important achievement is an acknowledgment of our commitment to research and innovation in developing smart, connected products and maintaining quality standards. Technogym is the reference brand for the world’s most successful sports teams and elite athletes, and we look forward to building a lasting relationship with the PGA Tour.”

Technogym has served as the Official Equipment Provider of seven Olympic Games.

The partnership is understood to be a three-season deal, from 2019-20 to 2021-22, and builds on AXA’s existing Global Partner agreement with Liverpool.

The deal is the largest ever sponsorship investment in UK women’s sport and comes less than a year after the league went fully professional in September 2018.

Under the five-year global deal, Oppo will become the first Official Smartphone Partner of The Championships, Wimbledon, as the event is officially known.

US sportswear brand Nike is paying about $7.5m (€6.7m) per year to sponsor China’s League of Legends Pro League (LPL), according to industry sources.
