P&G brands step up to the plate for Home Run Derby

Major League Baseball has agreed terms for personal care brands Gillette and Head & Shoulders to sponsor its 2015 Home Run Derby.

Gillette and Head & Shoulders, owned by households goods giant Procter & Gamble, are existing corporate partners of MLB.

Gillette resumes its role of title sponsor from last year for the 30th edition of the Home Run Derby and has sponsored the league since 1939, while Head and Shoulders is in its fifth season as the official shampoo of Major League Baseball and will be the presenting sponsor of the event.

Noah Garden, MLB’s executive vice-president of business, said: “Both Gillette and Head & Shoulders are brands that already have a strong connection to MLB and our fan base. As corporate sponsors and with their involvement in the Derby, they have an opportunity to create an even deeper connection with baseball fans."

Both P&G brands will conduct promotions, support community activities, advertise during the Home Run Derby telecast and have a presence around Cincinnati when it hosts the showpiece on July 13.

Detroit Tigers outfielder Yoenis Céspedes (pictured) won the event the last two years as a member of the Oakland Athletics.
