Nike replaces Kappa as Wolfsburg partner

German Bundesliga football club Wolfsburg has sealed a long-term partnership with sportswear company Nike.

The deal will run for nine seasons, from 2016-17 to 2024-25.

Nike will provide Wolfsburg’s playing kit, with the partnership being activated in other ways, to be announced at a later date.

Nike will replace sportswear company Kappa, which has been a partner of the club for the past two seasons. According to German media reports, the deal is worth between €75m ($86.3m) and €80m.

“This long-term and strategic partnership with Nike is a massive leap forwards for Wolfsburg,” the club's manager, Thomas Röttgermann, said. “Nike believes in the potential of the club.”

The club’s director of sport, Klaus Allofs, added: “Nike and Wolfsburg are exceptionally well suited. Just like us, Nike are extremely ambitious and are never simply satisfied with what they have achieved, but always strive to reach the optimum. In Nike, we have won a strategic partner, who are an example to us and with whom we intend to achieve a great deal with in the future.”
