Nexen expands MLB portfolio with Pirates deal

South Korean tyre manufacturer Nexen has extended sponsorship deals with the Texas Rangers and LA Angels, and entered into a new partnership with fellow Major League Baseball franchise the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The company’s partnerships with the three clubs will cover the 2016 MLB season, which began at the weekend. Financial terms of the deals were not disclosed.

Throughout the 2016 campaign, Nexen will be granted advertising exposure through outfield signage at the Rangers’ and Pirates’ home grounds, while it will be promoted on the Angels’ LED screens during the club’s home games.

The company will also promote its brand through Korean-born players Shin-Soo Choo, Jung-Ho Kang and Ji-Man Choi (pictured), who play for the Rangers, the Pirates and the Angels respectively.

Nexen has sponsored the Rangers and the Angels for the past two seasons. The company said in a statement: “Through these partnerships, we look forward to enhancing Nexen Tire's brand awareness among the vast amount of MLB fans around the globe. Moving forward, Nexen Tire will continue to reinforce its sports marketing activities to become a familiar brand for sports fans everywhere.”
