Payment services brand Visa made the biggest-ever sponsorship commitment in women’s football last month when it acquired the top women’s football package under Fifa’s revamped sponsorship structure.
Sports industry sources understand Visa paid more than $20m (€17.5m) for the rights, which cover the calendar year of the 2023 Women’s World Cup with further rights to the end of 2026 contingent on Fifa’s 'Future of Football', which could result in the Women's World Cup being hosted every two years.
