NBA’s Heat maintains green drive with NRG Energy

NBA basketball team Miami Heat has announced a multi-year partnership with energy company NRG.

The terms of the agreement were not disclosed, while NRG will work to bring green and renewable energy solutions into the Heat’s operations.

NRG will be the official partner of the Miami Heat and its home AmericanAirlines Arena in the alternative energy, green energy, wind energy and electric vehicle charging station categories.

The East Plaza at AmericanAirlines Arena will be converted into a solar-powered pavilion, with installation set to be completed by November.

Miami Heat claimed a world first last week when AmericanAirlines Arena was awarded the LEED Gold certificate – the highest ranking on the US Green Building Council’s ratings system for the energy efficiency of buildings worldwide.
