Wales Rugby League, the sport’s national governing body, has sealed a major sponsorship deal with betting company My Club Betting.
Under the record-breaking, six-figure deal, a new Wales Rugby League betting website will be established, with 20 per cent of revenues generating being ploughed back into the sport. My Club Betting will also become the principal sponsor of the Wales national team. Clubs throughout Wales will be able to set up their own websites to open up new revenue streams, and they will also receive kit and equipment for every user that signs up to place a bet.
The deal will run through to the 2017 Rugby League World Cup.
“We set out our vision two years ago to be a top-four nation rugby league nation, in terms of performance and governance,” Wales Rugby League chairman Brian Juliff said. “Of course, money is going to be key and I'm hoping the My Club Betting deal is going to add that income for us. It's a significant sum. The potential is huge and it could run into millions of pounds.”
