Microsoft secures long-term Nascar deal

US software giant Microsoft has sealed a multi-year agreement to serve as the official technology partner of North American stock car racing series Nascar.

Microsoft will also be a major technology partner of 11-time Sprint Cup Series winning team Hendrick Motorsports.

Both Nascar and Hendrick Motorsports will adopt the Windows 10 platform and cloud computing facility Microsoft Azure within their operations.

Windows 10 will be the official operating system of Hendricks Motorsports, while its upcoming commercial launch will be further supported by the primary sponsorship of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s No.88 Chevrolet SS at Sonoma Raceway on June 28 and Pocono Raceway on August 2.

Two-time Daytona 500 champion Earnhardt (pictured) will work as a spokesman to promote Windows 10.

Nascar and Microsoft first collaborated in 2014 by launching the Windows mobile inspection application, which helped team to reduce the time spent examining cars prior to races by nearly half.

Steve Phelps, Nascar’s chief marketing officer, said: “Microsoft has a proven track record as a technology solution provider and the development of the Windows mobile inspection app has reinvented our inspection process. As we look to the future, we’re excited at the prospect of developing new applications and leveraging Windows 10 and Microsoft Azure services that will make our sport more competitive, exciting, and accessible to fans.”
