Locally based American hypermarket chain Meijer has agreed a deal to become the title sponsor of the inaugural LPGA Classic women’s golf tournament at Blythefield Country Club in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The debut edition of the new Ladies Professional Golf Association event takes place on August 7-10 next year and 144 players will contest a $1.5m (€1.1m) prize fund.
Meijer will use the sponsorship to boost its charitable Simply Give programme, which has generated more than $6.5m for food pantries in the communities it serves.
