LPGA signs up third global partner for 2021 Solheim Cup

US refining, marketing and transportation company Marathon Petroleum has agreed a deal with the Ladies Professional Golf Association to become a global partner of the 2021 edition of the Solheim Cup team tournament.

Marathon joins golf equipment manufacturer Ping and Swiss watchmaker Rolex as global partners of the event.

The announcement coincided with the LPGA awarding hosting rights for the 2021 tournament to Toledo in the US state of Ohio. The tournament will be staged at Toledo’s Inverness Club golf course.

Marathon also serves as the title sponsor of the Marathon Classic LPGA event, which has taken place in Toledo since 1984.

Tom Kelley, Marathon Petroleum’s senior vice-president of marketing, said: “Along with our sponsorship of Stacy Lewis (pictured) and title sponsorship of the Marathon Classic, being a global partner for this world-renowned competition is a tremendous opportunity to extend our positive experience with the LPGA.”
