Land Rover extends Rugby Australia deal through 2024

Luxury automaker Land Rover Australia has renewed its commercial partnership with Rugby Australia until the end of 2024.

Land Rover, which first partnered with Rugby Australia in 2018, will remain designated the governing body's official vehicle.

As part of the agreement, the Land Rover logo will adorn the back of the Wallabies' team shorts on game days and at training, and on the Gilbert Test match rugby balls.

The announcement comes on the back of Australia being awarded the 2027 Rugby World Cup and 2029 women's event.

"Rugby Australia is thrilled to be able to continue our partnership with Land Rover for another three years," said Andy Marinos, Rugby Australia chief executive. "The values of Rugby Australia have great synergy with those at Land Rover, and the Wallabies will wear their logo with pride throughout the Test seasons.

"Land Rover have a long history of supporting Rugby around the globe, and we look forward to continuing to have a successful partnership that benefits both organisations for many years ahead," Marinos said.

Land Rover has also renewed its ambassador relationship with Wallabies captain Michael Hooper.

"The alignment between the Wallabies and Land Rover is natural as we are both keenly focused on optimal performance and being the best," Hooper said. "I’ve had a great relationship with the team over at Land Rover for the last couple of years, and I'm honoured to renew our partnership."

Rugby Australia cut its losses to A$4.5m ($3.3m/€3.1m) last year after broadcast revenue increased by more than 50 per cent during another rugby union season disrupted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rugby Australia struck major deals with confectionary giant Cadbury, retailer Harvey Norman and brewery Stone & Wood last year. It also retained and upgraded existing sponsorship agreements with investment platform eToro, fossil fuels producer Santos, employee management services company Smart Group and the Intercontinental Hotels Group.
