Kuala Lumpur’s SEA Games seals apparel partnership

Thai-based sports apparel and equipment company FBT has agreed a deal to sponsor the 2017 edition of the Southeast Asian Games multi-sport event, which will be staged in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

FBT will serve as a platinum sponsor of the Games and will provide RM7.5m (€1.6m/$1.7m) in funding. FBT agreed the deal with the Malaysian SEA Games Organising Committee (MASOC).

As part of the agreement, Games officials, volunteers, VIPs, organisers and staff will be dressed in FBT apparel. FBT’s range of merchandise will also be on sale during the event.

“We picked FBT as they meet our expectations and requirements,” Khairy Jamaluddin, Malaysia’s Minister of Youth and Sports, said. “FBT has the capacity, efficiency and consistency to deliver some 100,000 pieces of official attire for the Games."

Jamaluddin added that the MASOC has so far generated RM56.3m in sponsorship for the Games. Of that figure, RM14.7m is in cash and RM42m is in kind and services.

“We’re working hard (to) look for another RM23.3m to achieve our sponsorship target of RM80m for the Games,” Jamaluddin said.

FBT has been involved in the SEA Games since 1983. Next year’s Games are scheduled to take place from August 19-31, with the ASEAN Para Games to be staged two weeks later from September 17-23.
