South African rugby union team the Golden Lions has announced a commercial partnership with uniform supplier Kit Group.
The Lions will return to Super Rugby next season – the southern hemisphere’s premier club competition – following an aggregate promotion/relegation play-off victory over the Southern Kings at the weekend.
However, Kit Group spokesman Charl Cillers revealed negotiations for the deal were under way before the club’s Super Rugby status was secured.
“We have been looking for opportunities where brand association or co-branding can form part of our campaign,” he said. “The fact that the Golden Lions were, at the time, a relegated side was for us an added value as we wanted to be part of their rejuvenation.”
The terms of the deal were undisclosed.
