National Women's Soccer League team NJ/NY Gotham FC has brought in blockchain company Algorand as its new principal jersey sponsor in a three-year, "mid-seven figure" deal.
Algorand has also been designated the official blockchain and non-fungible token (NFT) partner of the team.
As part of the agreement, Gotham FC and Algorand will be unveiling blockchain-enabled payments and NFT integrations in-stadium and in the community.
Efforts will be made to enhance the fan experience with a series of in-game NFT giveaways, blockchain scavenger hunts, and blockchain enabled purchasing for tickets and merchandise. Gotham FC season-ticket members will also be rewarded with access to even more exclusive giveaways ranging from rarer NFTs to post-game field access opportunities.
“Algorand and Gotham FC share similar mission driven goals, which is what makes this partnership so exciting,” said Andrea Pagnanelli, Gotham FC chief of business operations. “Whether it’s blockchain or sports, both of our organizations are committed to empowering women and impacting our community. I look forward to working closely with the Algorand team to launch initiatives focused on equality, inclusion, and the advancement of women in the blockchain, sports, and STEM sectors.”Algorand’s move extends an active run of major sponsorship activity over the past year by blockchain and cryptocurrency companies, a run that has also included large-scale pacts for entities such as Crypto.com, FTX, StormX, and eToro, among others.
The Massachusetts-based Algorand also has an extensive relationship with the Drone Racing League, signing a five-year, $100m (€84.7m) deal last fall to gain title rights to that property's World Championship circuit.
