Franchises sign up sponsors as Indian Super League kicks off

Indian Super League franchises North East United, Mumbai City and Atlético de Kolkata signed shirt sponsorship deals ahead of the start of the inaugural season of the football competition on Sunday.

Mobile phone manufacturer HTC has become the lead sponsor of North East United for the 2014 ISL season, granting it branding presence on the front of the club’s shirt.

Online fashion retailer Jabong has taken up a similar position with Mumbai City, although the terms of its deal were undisclosed.

Having already secured Indian telecommunications company Aircel as its principal sponsor, Atlético de Kolkata has added health insurance company Apollo Munich as a co-sponsor. Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but Apollo will enjoy branding presence on the back of the team’s shirt.

The ISL kicked off on Sunday with Atlético recording a comfortable 3-0 win over Mumbai. North East United gets its campaign underway later today (Monday) against Kerala Blasters.
