Foot Locker strengthens ties with NBA

Athletic footwear and apparel retailer Foot Locker has agreed a multi-year deal to become an official partner of the NBA in Canada, while it has also expanded its US partnership with the basketball league.

Foot Locker will help the NBA to develop the sport in Canada by engaging fans at league events held in the country, including the NBA Canada Series and the NBA Big Tour, along with rolling out a number of NBA-themed promotions at its stores nationwide. A partner to the NBA Canada Series since its inaugural edition at the start of the 2012-13 season, Foot Locker has received national television exposure and benefitted from in-arena signage.

Seven Canadian players having been drafted into the NBA in the past three years, including Anthony Bennett of Cleveland Cavaliers as the No.1 pick in the 2013 NBA Draft.  In September, the league launched NBA.com/playball, a campaign aimed at increasing basketball participation among youth in Canada.

Additionally, Foot Locker has expanded its relationship with the NBA in the USA by becoming an official marketing partner of the league for the first time.

Under this agreement, Foot Locker will continue as the title partner of the Three-Point Contest, a designation it has held since 2004. Foot Locker will also run promotions around marquee NBA events, such as NBA All-Star and the NBA Draft, which will offer prize packages for fans.
