Fisu mines rich seam with new partnership

Norilsk Nickel Mining and Metallurgical Company (MMC Norilsk Nickel) has built on its ties to youth sport by entering into a partnership with the International University Sports Federation (Fisu).

The partnership, the length of which was not disclosed, was signed at the SportAccord Convention in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Under the agreement, MMC Norilsk Nickel will lend its support to such Fisu events as the World University Championships, the International Day of University Sport, the Fisu Forum and Lausanne in Motion.

MMC Norilsk Nickel, a Moscow-headquartered firm, in February agreed a deal to become a general partner of the 2019 winter Universiade multi-sport event, which will be staged in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk.

MMC Norilsk Nickel vice-president Elena Bezdenezhnykh said: “After Norilsk Nickel became a general partner of the 2019 winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk, it was a natural progression for us to start a working relationship with Fisu. Support of sport at all levels – professional, university and grassroots – is an integral part of our company’s social policy.

“University sport is very important not only in Russia but throughout the world and we hope that our support will aid Fisu in attracting more participants to the international university sports movement and holding Krasnoyarsk 2019 at the highest level.”
