Edmonton Oilers latest NHL franchise to team with Scotiabank

Scotiabank has sealed a six-year deal to become the official bank of NHL team Edmonton Oilers, further increasing the banking group’s presence in Canadian ice hockey.

The partnership will focus on fan and community initiatives and grassroots hockey, including the Scotiabank Girls HockeyFest – a free hockey festival for girls aged seven to 14.

To celebrate the tie-up, Oilers captain Andrew Ference and assistant coach Steve Smith were surprise special guests at a practice session for The Zombies yesterday – one of 194 youth hockey clubs in the greater Edmonton area covered by the Scotiabank Community Hockey Sponsor Program, which serves 5,000 minor hockey teams and leagues.

Scotiabank is the official bank of the NHL, the NHL Alumni Association, the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, and NHL teams Vancouver Canucks, Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, Ottawa Senators and the Calgary Flames, serving as the naming sponsor of the latter’s home arena. The bank also has a partnership with another NHL outfit, Montreal Canadiens.
