Dundee brings in stadium naming rights partner

Scottish Premiership football club Dundee has agreed a deal for construction and development company Kilmac to take on naming rights to its Dens Park stadium.

Under the two-year agreement, the venue will be renamed as the Kilmac Stadium at Dens Park.

Kilmac has been working with Dundee for a number of years and was the team’s main front-of-shirt sponsor from the 2010-11 season to the 2013-14 campaign.

Richard Kilcullen, owner of Kilmac, said: “We realise the importance to the fans to keep Dens Park in the name in what will be the last few years as the home of Dundee Football Club.”

John Nelms, managing director of Dundee, added: “We are always looking for new unique revenue streams and this is a fantastic opportunity for the club and it makes it even better that it is with Richard and Kilmac who are and have been lifelong supporters of the club.”

The deal comes as the club prepares to move forward with its plans to build a new stadium.

According to the Courier newspaper, Nelms said his company, Dark Blues Property Holdings, has an agreement in place to buy the venue from owner John Bennett.

Dundee signed a 20-year lease with Bennett, a former director of rival Dundee United, in 2013, but has stated its desire to relocate to a new stadium in time for the 2020-21 season.

Nelms said: “John is a friend of the club and we have an understanding of what’s going to happen. He has been really good to the club, I have spoken to him several times and when we get to the stage things are moving we will sit down.

“We will buy Dens Park back, if everything goes well, that’s what we’ll do.”
